Aphasia Support is heading to parliament!

We've been given the opportunity to launch our charity's Branch Network project with MPs across the country. We will be raising awareness of Aphasia, demonstrating the gaps in current NHS provision and calling for localised partnerships to enhance speech and language therapy and meet demand for our charity's services.

To help us advocate for the Aphasia community, please click here to find your local MP and send them the message below:

Dear

I am writing to kindly encourage you to attend Aphasia Support's parliamentary launch event next month. This is an opportunity for you to hear from an under-represented and under-resourced community in desperate need of support, and a charity working hard to create meaningful change.

The event is hosted by Aphasia Support, a growing charity who need your cooperation to improve the provision of speech and language therapy for local people with Aphasia - a devastating hidden disability caused by damage to the brain, usually following a stroke. Aphasia affects a person's ability to communicate (including speaking, reading, writing and understanding language). This is why it's so important be an advocate for people like me, just one of the 350,000 individuals living with the life-changing diagnosis of Aphasia in the UK.

I encourage you to visit Aphasia Support after Prime Minister's Question's on 23rd April, where you will have the opportunity to speak to Shadim Hussain MBE who will be sharing his lived experience of Aphasia following a stroke. The charity's CEO, James Major, will be in attendance alongside Trustee and Speech and Language Therapist, Caroline Haw.

Date: Wednesday 23rd April

Time: 12.45 - 2.45pm (following Prime Minister's Questions)

Venue: Portcullis House (Room U), London

Kindly sponsored by: Simon Lightwood MP

Your presence on the day would be greatly appreciated by myself and fellow residents who trust you to:

  • fully represent your constituents with communication difficulties
  • champion the need for enhanced speech and language therapy in our region
  • take action in partnership with Aphasia Support and the NHS

Thank you for your time and support. If you would like any further information about this event, please email info@aphasiasupport.org.
